Unique Los Angeles ActiviesBeyond the major tourist attractions, there are lots of cool and unique things to do that truly capture the flavor of Los Angeles. Here are a few of my recommendations for activities you won't find in most vacation guides. For more fun things to do, visit the Tourist Attractions and Outdoor Recreation pages. Hollywood Forever CemeteryPay your respects to some of Hollywood's biggest names at this history-rich cemetery. As you walk the beautiful grounds, you'll see the final resting places of celebrities like Cecil B. DeMille, Jayne Mansfield, Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks and more. Also don't miss the "Library of Lives", a collection of digital tributes to the famous and non-famous alike featuring photos, film clips and documents. For more information, visit the Hollywood Forever Cemetery website. 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences LibraryIf you're a real film buff, you'll find everything you've ever wanted to know in this extensive collection of motion picture materials. Browse thousands of books and periodicals, read your favorite screenplays, view original movie posters and memorabilia, or page through a file of news clippings on your favorite movie-maker or film. Items can't be taken from the premises, but you can make a limited number of photocopies and the gorgeous atmosphere makes spending a few hours in the library more than enjoyable. For details on using the library and more, visit the AMPAS Margaret Herrick Library website. 333 S. La Cienega Blvd, Beverly Hills The Rock StoreThis local pitstop is a popular destination for motorcylists and celebrities like Jay Leno who want to test their new rides on the windy canyon roads that surround it. Stop by for a hefty breakfast, BBQ tri-tip sandwich, homemade chili or just an ice-cold drink and mingle with motorcycling enthusiasts from all over southern California. For more information, visit The Rock Store website. 30354 Mulholland Hwy Cornell, Malibu Cinerama Dome at Arclight CinemasBuilt in 1963 (in only 16 weeks), the Cinerama Dome has for decades been a unique and exciting way to see movies in Los Angeles. Resembling a large golf ball from the outside, the Dome's 32x86 foot screen makes it ideal for screening 70mm films. The Cinerama Dome was recently restored and incorporated into Arclight Cinemas, a 14-auditorium theatre which also features a cafe/bar and gift shop. Visit the Arclight Cinemas website for showtimes and tickets. 6360 W Sunset Blvd, Hollywood Downtown Walking ToursDowntown Los Angeles is rich with architectural wonders, from modern towering skyscrapers to classic deco hotels. Covering a variety of subjects, The Los Angeles Convervancy's walking tours are a fun and interesting way to see the city (and burn off those calories from delicious meals at L.A.'s top restaurants.) Advanced reservations are required. Visit the LA Conservancy's website for more information. Downtown Los Angeles Pacific Coast Highway (PCH)Santa Monica may provide that SoCal beach feeling, but to me, the only way to appreciate the coastline is driving the Pacific Coast Highway. The route weaves you along the water past surfers, seafood cafes, celebrity malibu homes and simply breathtaking views from the western edge of the United States.
